    Education Coordinator/Information and Education Services Librarian

    The Biomedical Libraries, a component of the Dartmouth College Library system, seek an enthusiastic and service-oriented professional to join its information and education team. The Education Coordinator leads the Biomedical Libraries’ education program in support of Dartmouth’s health and life sciences communities. As one of several Information and Education Services Librarians, the Education Coordinator also provides liaison, reference, and education services to the Department of Biological Sciences, the Dartmouth Medical School, and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, as well as to interdisciplinary and graduate programs, in support of research and scholarship, education, and patient care. The Biomedical Libraries consist of the Dana Biomedical Library at Dartmouth College’s Hanover, NH, campus, and the Matthews-Fuller Health Sciences at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to the Director of Biomedical Libraries. In coordination with the Director and Associate Directors, develops long-term plans for the Libraries’ education programs. Assesses needs and develops and evaluates programs. Facilitates teaching assessment and development. Collaborates with faculty to provide direct curriculum support for Dartmouth’s health and life sciences communities. Develops other activities--including orientations, workshops, classes, Grand Rounds, and other presentations--on a variety of topics--including information resources and databases, information management, library and internet systems, networking, and library-oriented computer applications--for a variety of audiences--including faculty, clinicians, and preceptors; and students, support staff, alumni, and patients and identified community groups. Coordinates user help documentation for information resources and databases. Manages support activities, including scheduling, promotion, and continuing educational credit registration. As an Information and Education Services Librarian, the position actively participates in a Librarian Liaison program, works as a member of a collaborative team to provide reference service in a technically-sophisticated environment to faculty, students, staff, and patients; shares responsibility for covering the reference desks at the Dana Biomedical Library and the Matthews-Fuller Health Sciences Library, including evenings and weekends; and searches a wide variety of biomedical information resources. This position participates in the development and delivery of the College Library’s education program.

    QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited degree in library and/or information science, or a combination of an advanced subject or professional degree combined with relevant academic library experience. Educational background in the health or life sciences preferred. The successful candidate will have teaching skills and commitment to and enthusiasm for library instruction; familiarity with developments in instructional technology, learning assessment, and trends in pedagogy; knowledge of trends in health and life sciences education, strong program and service development and coordination skills; strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; ability to work collegially in small-group and team environments; strong commitment to client service; advanced reference skills and proficiency in computer- assisted research; and familiarity with use and application of computers in a fully networked campus environment.

    RANK AND SALARY: commensurate with experience and qualifications; $40,000 expected minimum. Full benefits package including 22 vacation days; comprehensive health care; retirement plans, including TIAA/CREF; and relocation assistance.
