Position Availability
The Claude Moore Health Sciences Library at the University of Virginia is seeking an energetic and creative individual to manage the Information Services Department which includes Outreach, Education, the Learning Resources Center and Information Services. The department supports an extensive educational program for the UVA Health System, provides an array of innovative outreach services with an emphasis on underserved populations, and is a leader within the Health System in supporting new information technologies.
The position reports to the Associate Director for Library Operations and supervises 7 faculty librarians and several support staff. The Assistant Director ensures that all services provided by Information Services are of high quality, user-oriented, and utilize the latest information technologies. The incumbent will work collaboratively with other library staff as well as colleagues within the University on projects and joint service initiatives.
Requirements for the position include a Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school and three years experience working in a health sciences library setting, preferably providing information and instructional services. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as a commitment to teamwork are essential for the position. Knowledge and experience in health science library information systems is essential. Other desirable skills, experience or abilities include: management and supervisory experience, management of technology-based services, evidence-based librarianship, and experience working in an academic health sciences library. Membership in the MLA Academy of Health Information Professionals preferred.
Minimum salary for the position is $58,000. The search will remain open until a successful candidate has been chosen but applications received by August 31, 2004 will be given preference.
