    UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY LIBRARIES Lexington, KY 40506-0456 www.uky.edu/Libraries POSITION: University Archivist and Director, UK Records Program Job #SO505384 AVAILABLE: September 1, 2004 DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The University of Kentucky seeks an archivist to coordinate and manage activities of the University Archives and Records Program including accessioning, appraisal, processing, reference, the maintenance and development of records retention schedules, and outreach activities. This position administers a university-wide records management program, for records in all formats, in accordance with state law, guidelines and best professional practices. The person in this position promotes the records program within the University and throughout the state in addition to seeking and developing funding opportunities. Moreover, he/she is responsible for exploring digital initiatives and maintaining an Archives and Records website. This person also sits on the Special Collections and Archives Management Team, has a slot on the SC&A reference desk, and supervises three regular full-time staff members. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Graduate degree in library science (ALA-accredited program), archival administration, information management, or other relevant field. Experience with institutional records management and archival administration. Familiarity with records analysis, retention schedules, archival accessioning, collection processing, and electronic records management practices and related issues; strong written and oral communication skills; and, demonstrable computer and information technology skills. Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws pertaining to university records, such as FERPA and HIPAA. Desired: Strong background working with electronic records; direct involvement with web site creation and maintenance, experience working in a university or college archives environment, and evidence of ability to work well with staff, faculty, administrators, records liaisons, and donors. SALARY & BENEFITS: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Tenure track, faculty rank, 12 month appointment, 22 days annual leave, TIAA/CREF, Fidelity, and Twentieth Century Annuity plans. LIBRARY: Located in the beautiful bluegrass region of Kentucky, the University of Kentucky Libraries system includes the main William T. Young Library, Medical Center Library, Law Library, Special Collections & Archives, Agricultural Information Center, Little Fine Arts Library, Architecture Library, Education Library, Engineering Library and five science libraries. Combined holdings total more than 3 million volumes. The system has a staff of 80 librarians and 109 support staff and serves a student body of 28,000. The UK Libraries use the Voyager integrated library system. Library membership includes ARL, SOLINET, ASERL, and the Center for Research Libraries, and is a regional depository for government publications.
