Title: Literacy Specialist
Location: Dudley Literacy Center of the Boston Public Library
Salary Range: $37,802 - $51,037 DOQ.
Duties: Works with Coordinator of Literacy Services to initiate, develop, plan, and implement the Librarys programs and services which support adult and family literacy. Provides extensive educational and tutoring services for individuals and families in need of literacy services or those engaged in progressive reading and basic skills development. Develops interactive relationships, and coordinates library literacy programs and services with community-based organization, especially those which offer instructional programs and literacy development. Initiates, develops and implements an on-going program of outreach activities to stimulate use of the Librarys literacy resources at the Literacy Center. Qualifications: A bachelors degree from a recognized college or university. Masters degree or equivalent combination of work experience and education in adult and family literacy. Two years of professional library experience including work with those engaged in literacy education and in working collaboratively with community based organizations, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work; extensive knowledge of books, non-profit, and specialized resources related to the literacy field; demonstrated interest in library work related to literacy, demonstrated interest in community library work and willingness to develop strong, interactive community relationships; demonstrated ability to work independently; proven oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work well with staff and public in a multicultural environment; initiative; good judgment; dependability; tact; courtesy.
