    Texas A&M University Libraries seeks an Engineering Librarian for its Science/Engineering Services unit. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position, in which library faculty are expected to participate in scholarly research and publication. Appointment is at the Assistant Professor level. RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Director of the Sciences/Engineering Services Unit, the successful candidate will provide a full range of information support in a highly automated science reference environment. As liaison/selector, the incumbent is responsible for collection development in selected fields of engineering. Works closely with faculty and graduate students to determine information needs and to obtain and develop resources responsive to those needs. Manages the general and reference collections and associated fund expenditures in assigned subject areas. Provides reference assistance at public service points as scheduled and subject specific consultation by appointment. Participates in instructional programs by teaching classes and by giving tours, demonstrations and individual counseling sessions. Promotes library services and facilitates communications with assigned academic departments. Provides library support to distance education students in engineering. Develops web-based subject and class guides and subject-specific handouts as required. Assignment includes some night and weekend hours. QUALIFICATIONS: Required Master's Degree from an ALA-accredited library program or equivalent. Undergraduate degree or substantial background in engineering or the physical sciences; basic web page design skills; knowledge of science resources in print and electronic formats; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collegially in a team setting; potential for fulfilling the University's requirements for tenure and promotion. Preferred: Advanced degree in engineering, a physical science, mathematics, or computer science; public service experience; experience using internet applications. Experience in the creation and maintenance of web pages. BENEFITS & SALARY: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, with a minimum starting figure of $40,000.
